Why Open Adoption?

Part of our mission at Lamb of God Maternity Home is to provide open adoption education to our residents and community. As we are developing our educational materials and program, we're doing a tremendous amount of research. What we continue to find in this research brings concrete facts to the critical importance of our mission and vision; the failure to educate and implement open adoption as a viable solution is in fact detrimental to our society.

Some statistics that are not only devastating, but also pull on our heartstrings include:

Children in Fatherless Homes Represent:

•    85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders
•    90% of all homeless and runaway children
•    70% of juveniles in state-operated institutions
•    85% of all incarcerated youth
•    71% of all high school dropouts
•    75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers
•    63% of youth suicides

We recognize that some women may find themselves in a situation where they are raising a child on their own due to divorce or death of a spouse, and there certainly are many heroic and incredible single mothers. What we have carefully discerned is the statistical data of children raised in fatherless homes. The odds are stacked against them. As a society and as a nation, we owe it to our children and our mothers to present adoption as an option and to love them during and after the process.
